Wound Causes
When it comes to non-healing wounds, patients with numerous medical complications are always the most vulnerable. They have decreased immunity to disease. Many have a compromised nutritional status and systemic or local infections that can result in wounds. In older patients, age is also a contributing factor because the skin is more fragile and slower to heal. The most common causes of non-healing wounds include:
- Incontinence
- Altered mental status that affects self-care abilities
- Immobility
- Peripheral vascular disease
- Diabetes
